Building collapse causes death toll of 27, injures 60

A seven storey building built up with haste on the outskirts of western coastal city in Thane area collapsed causing a death toll of 27 and injuring over 60 people.

Fire fighting and police force rushed to the spot and rescued the trapped ones under the debris. The incident occurred in the late hours of Thursday was reported by the police on Friday morning. National Disaster Response Force continued their search for live and rescue operations entire night.

The building constructor was said to have not taken required licenses or any precautionary measures. No architectural or structural Engineer’s consultancy was taken. The entire building came up within one and half month’s time. Apparently the construction was done with substandard material and without proper technical support.

A case of culpable homicide is charged by the police against the builder who understandably is absconding after hearing the news of collapse. Throwing the blame on to the builder is just but it is not a complete action. Now, Authorities are complaining about the non compliance of the required building norms but no one seems to have learnt a lesson from this incident to start a surveillance activity to look out for the new constructions that come up to avoid a damage and loss to the lives instead of feeling relieved as the mistake is on the part of somebody else.
