Following the arrest of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi for his earlier 'hate' in 'Jalsa' at the Nirmal town in Adilabad district, security was beefed up across the state capital. However this afternoon after the prayers at the Mecca Masjid near the Charminar, some miscreants attacked the guarding policemen by pelting stones.

Few on guard were injured and were treated medically. For sometime there was a free for all situation in the area but later the cops took over the control.

One of the cops was critically injured in the melee, even media personnel suffered some injuries. Subsequent to the attack police fired water canons and lathi charged the group. In the mean time some people who demanded immediate release of the MIM leader took a procession towards the Charminar, shouting pro-Akbarudin slogans.

Police suspect the protest as the handiwork of the MIM party and are looking to identify the miscreants by watching the CCTV footage. At the moment the situation seems to be under control. However extra forces are deployed in case of any emergencies. (Wishesh AarKay)
