Doctors avert mid- air crisis

At 30,000 ft in the air, the Delhi gang rape survivor almost collapsed in the air ambulance from low blood pressure while she was being taken to the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. During the six hour journey her BP suddenly plummeted to a very low figure but the experience of the critical care specialists Dr P K Verma of Safdarjung hospital and Yatin Mehta from Medanta Medicity had averted the crisis.

They made an arterial line, a thin pipe that is inserted in the artery that would monitor her BP every second in real time, to take care of the delicate situation. The parents were explained about the risks involved in flying her to Singapore which might include chances of blood pressure falling or even a cardiac arrest.

She was admitted to Singapore hospital at 9:10 am and then she underwent a complete CT scan before being shifted to the ICU. The BP of the girl is under control and stable but her condition is critical. The CEO of the hospital was however not as positive as our doctors as he maintained that her condition is extremely critical but all efforts to make her condition stable were being made.

The pumping capacity of the heart dropped from 50% to 25% on reaching Singapore which is way below the usual average capacity of 70%. Neurological damage was also expected after she had no pulse for over three minutes after her cardiac arrest.

Is her condition getting better or is it out of human hands with such severe damage?
