Fire in Begumpet airport, 50 cr gutted

Hyderabad city witnessed the worst fire accident last night (December 17). The old airport in Begumpet which had been restricted to repairs and armed forces, had fire engulfed in one of its hangers, destroying property worth rupees fifty crores, claim initial estimates.

The fire that was first spotted in the hangers spread rapidly with white petrol stored in the place. It took fours hours to put down the intensity after fierce fire fighting. In the mean time nearly seven air crafts and two helicopters that had been parked in  the hangers were almost gutted.

This was one of the worst accidents noted in the recent times, though no harm to anybody was noted in the incident. Fire personnel who immediately arrived on the spot took till early hours of Tuesday, to douse the flames.

As the fire reached the skies aided by white petrol in the parked air crafts, the dwellers of the surrounding areas ran out of their houses in fear.

It was a dreadful night for the people living around the old airport. However everything is under control in the predawn hours of the day. (Wishesh AarKay)
