Murli Manohar Joshi fights back, slams Congress demand as "absurd"

Senior BJP leader and public accounts committee chairman Murli Manohar Joshi reacts sharply against congress party's demand for a probe into alleged misrepresentation of loss figures in 2G spectrum case. Earlier today, the former principal auditor of CAG, RP Singh said that Joshi had influenced the report and  the loss figure of Rs 1.76 lakh crore was presumptive, which he had deleted from the draft report but later restored in the final copy.

While refuting Singh's charges as baseless, Joshi said that the Congress's call for probe against CAG was absurd. He added, "RP Singh was called to the JPC as well. It is impossible to write a report under pressure. He was to write the report himself. The government, in order to hide its corruption, is resorting to such measures."
"Both the CAG and PAC are two important institutions which are watchdogs of the government," Joshi continued, adding, "The government wants to cover up all its misdeeds and corruption activity." Responding to a query on the Congress's demand for a probe, Joshi said, "Congress can demand any absurd things."
