Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is all set to become the Member of Parliament. The President Pratibha Patil has approved his nomination to the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. It may be noted that the Centre has proposed Sachin Tendulkar to Rajya Sabha besides two others and the UPA chairperson  Sonia Gandhi even spoke to him for a couple of minutes yesterday following which Sachin accepted the offer.

All the political parties expressed their happiness and welcomed the move to nominate his as the member of the Upper House of the Parliament.  While all political personalities hailed the move, mixed reactions came from the people out of political field. Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar said he was shocked while a senior journalist said he would be disappointed if Sachin Tendulkar joins any political party.

It may be noted that the Centre has also proposed the names of legendary actress Rekha and industrialist Anu Agha to become the members of the Upper House. It is known that the Constitution grants special powers to the President to appoint 12 eminent personalities to the Rajya Sabha from different fields.

In the history of India, this is the first time that an active sportsperson has been nominated for the Rajya Sabha. Sachin who so far gave answers to his critics’ questions with his bat will now raise voice in the house against the problems of the public. Let us wish him all the best! (Phani)
