3-day APVRS Congress begins, opportunity for updating on Eye

The Sixth Asia Pacific Vitreoretina Society Congress in conjunction with the XX Annual Conference of the Vitreoretina Society, India is conducting a three day congress scheduled from 1st to 3rd December 2011 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre, Novotel & HICC Complex. The Congress commenced with much fanfare in the city on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Gopal Lal Verma, President, VRSI, said, ''I believe that this unprecedented partnership between the two vitreo retinal bodies will set a benchmark for the mutual exchange of ideas and information, as well as bring out the best from all of us.'' ''Advances in medical and surgical retina continue at astonishing pace, so much so that even one year between high level scientific congresses such as this, seems too long to keep up,'' said Prof Ian Constable, President, APVRS.

L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) is the local host of the Congress that would bring together world renowned eye surgeons, physicians and researchers of this subspecialty. Both the eminent bodies promote the practice and research of vitreous and retinal diseases of the eye in the Asia-Pacific and Indian regions respectively, and are collaborating for this weeks’ milestone event that is estimated to hugely impact ophthalmologists of this important subspecialty.

The purpose of the conference is to provide a forum for retinal specialists to share information, exciting updates and developments with regard to the vitreoretinal field, related surgical techniques, diagnostics, and therapies. An additional advantage would be the hands-on workshops that are specially devised for residents and fellows. The conference is also meant to accord a great networking opportunity in facilitating direct and intensive contact between the many experts in the field who would be participating in the event. This would be of particular benefit to the growing student and fellow community in paving the road for their future career aspirations.

Other local hosts hosting this landmark event in conjunction with LVPEI include the Andhra Pradesh Ophthalmological Society and the Hyderabad Ophthalmological Association.
