15 persons were killed and 34 others injured in a fire that broke out at a meeting of the eunuchs at a community park in east Delhi on Sunday, according to fire officials.

The injured were admitted to the Guru Tegh Bahadur hospital. The condition of some of the injured persons is stated to be serious.

Delhi Health Minister A.K. Walia, who visited the injured in hospital, ordered a probe into the fire accident and said the Government would announce compensation to the families of those killed and the injured.

The fire occurred at the park in Nand Nagri’s E2 block where 2,500 people gathered inside tents under the auspicious of the Akhil Bharatiya Kinnara Samaj Sarvdharma Mahasammelan. Sources said the fire had happened because of an electrical short-circuit and the tents were completely gutted.
