They deserved it, say parents on 'honor killing'

The world may have entered another millennium, but some sections of society refuse to keep up with the times. In a gruesome killing, the parents of a boy allowed the girl's family to kill him and had the gall to say, 'he deserved it'.

A couple in village Gharnavati in Haryana eloped on Tuesday, having no hopes of convincing their parents of their love. Nidhi and Dharmender were soon caught and killed by the girl's father and brothers in the name of honor killing.

Her family is in jail, but say they would do it again if required and that they have no regrets. None from the village have come forward to protest, highlighting the collective dark honor they are trying to protect.

The couple's love was not acceptable as they belong to the same  village. This only proves once again that what becomes your wrong is not another person's wrong and vice versa. The beheaded boy's parents are remorseless too, protecting their so-called honor by not pressing charges against the murderers.

Nidhi was burnt and Dharmender was beaten up by farm tools and beheaded in public. His dead body was then dumped outside his parents' house. Still, they did not come out. It goes without saying, there are sections of our society where love is a crime and love less marriages are the norm.
