Top five "Twitterati"

Twitter has become more powerful than the conventional media when it comes to news from different sections of the world. It is where celebs converse with their fans, where philanthropists share their views and try to talk with people from different walks of life, and other people who like to keep themselves updated get their information, first hand at times. This has recently attracted His Holiness,  Pope Benedict XVI himself who had over one million fans in less than a few days after his first tweet sending his blessings.

The Illuminati of the Twitter world, or Twitterati as we like to call them, are a few elite group of people you should be following for updates, laughs, and more witty updates.

At number one on the list is @LadyGaga. She is still the most followed member on Twitter with over 32 million fans. Its not just her weird sense of dressing or her catchy tunes that keep her followers close to her but her deep thoughts and inspirational quotes that draw them closer. She primarily used the micro-blogging site to promote charity and empowerment, which is the reason she stays at top on Twitter.

At 5th on the most followed list is US President for the second term,@BarackObama. With 24.4 million followers on Twitter, the Obama Campaign makes his tweets and rarely he too tweets online but they would be distinguished with his signature. On Valentine's Day he tweeted love to the First Lady.

One among the 10 million follower club is @KAKA. Though he has fewer fans than his teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo, CR9 with 13.7 million against 14.8 million, the Real Madrid star is the first of sportsmen to have more than 10 million fans. His tweets are trilingual, in English, Spanish and Portuguese, to reach out to fans all over the world.

His Holiness @DalaiLama is a very influential man on Twitter too. The Buddhist exile in India makes very inspirational tweets apart from the few spiritual messages and thought-provoking questions. He often sends pictures of himself on the tweets which show his latest appearances.

Media Baron @RupertMurdoch is one to follow with insightful personal, political and business news tweets. Though he has a smaller following with 376,000 followers, his straightforward ways of tweeting makes him a must-follow for those who love media-updates.
