Sawapnil Baliram Patole , a 25-year-old student from US who returned to India for Christmas vacations, was arrested on Saturday by Mumbai police as his name figured in the Mumbai police lookout notice . The immigration cell at the airport informed the Mumbai Cyber Investigating Cell , which arrested PAtole. Patole, a student of mechanical engineering in US, is from a well-to-do family in Kolhapur.
True the knowledge & technology utilized for the betterment of mankind becomes laudable, but if used for wrong ways could land the offender behind bars. The case that has been unearthed by the long patient wait of the Mumbai police helped them grab the culprit just as he returned from Texas for festival holidays, on Monday.
Sawapnil Baliram Patole (25) a mechanical engineering student, returned to India for vacations, from Texas. He was arrested by the Mumbai Police who got a tipoff of his arrival. According to the police, Patole, who originally hails from Kolhapur, had been arrested for uploading nude photographs of his college friend on a social networking website.
He had met his victim at the Kolhapur Institute of Technology several years back, when he was pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. He befriended her and the two used to meet often, after college hours. On one such occasion the accused had given her a drink, spiked with sedatives. Once unconscious, the girl was snapped obscene by Patole. With photos in hand, he started demanding her to have sex with him and marry him.
In November 2009, the girl allegedly received an email, asking her to make a payment of Rs. 1.5 lakhs to Patole, or face the consequences. But as she could not comply, he uploaded her photos in the social networking sites. To the horror of the girl some of her relatives informed her about the photos. Immediately she filed a complaint with the Mumbai police. But by that time Patole left for US to pursue higher education. After two years the patience paid off and the accused was arrested.

Everyone is saying that he couldn't ask for money as he can afford study in US. The fact is: he was doing his master's from Lamar University where semester fees is just about 2 grands. To cover the fee and living expenses, he was doing a night job in Super 8 (motel).
