Supreme Court lashes out UP govt

The Supreme Court of India said the government in Uttar Pradesh led by Akhilesh Yadav had failed to protect the rights of people in Muzaffarnagar riots, where nearly 60 people were killed. The Apex court also added for no need of Special Investigation Teams [SIT] or CBI now for the probe.

Supreme blamed that the UP government showed negligence in handling the riots and ordered to arrest the accused without looking at the background and political pressure.

The compensation for the victims should also be increased from Rs 3 Lakhs to Rs 15 Lakhs, especially for the women Rs 10 Lakhs must be given at any cost, said the Supreme court.
