Will public anger on price rise harm Congress?

Amidst falling rupee and rising rates of commodities and with the 2014 Lok Sabha elections inching close, the big question is will price rise hurt UPA government's poll prospects?

Although, Indian political history has very few precedents of a ruling party's prospect being marred by inflation, let us not forget that it's price rise that significantly feeds and eggs on anti-incumbency.

Despite having food security bill and land bill in its kitty, the UPA hardly  seems to be in a safe zone. The sky-rocketing retail prices of cereals, pulses, vegetables, and fuel is surely taking a toll on it's chances. Odds are escalating against the Congress-led coalition as opinion surveys clearly indicate the rising anger among both its rural and urban voters over price rise.

Dissatisfaction has peaked further as the economic situation slumped under an economist prime minister. “The overwhelming perception seems to be that theManmohan regime has squandered gains made from last decade’s India growth story.”

And the opposition is leaving no stone unturned to lay focus on economic mismanagement, the anxiety is palpable among Congress. With odds stacked against it, do you think that UPA government stands a chance in the next poll? Do write to us in the below comment box.
