FDI in retail vote: UPA wins but seeks recounting

Even though it's now clear that UPA government has won the vote on FDI in retail inside Rajya Sabha, to get the accurate number of votes for and against the motion govt asked for recounting. The government claimed that the total number of votes appeared is more than the actual strength of the upper house of parliament.

A little while ago the numbers stood at  123 votes in favour of FDI , 109 votes against while one member abstained from voting. Samajwadi Party, like they did in Lok Shabha, walked out of the parliament just before the voting process commenced. It's worth mentioning that seven nominated members voted for the government as urged by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The recounted numbers are yet to be announced.
