The mass shooting in the theatre in Aurora, Colorado, screening the movie The Dark Knight Rises, has been the most tragic incident in years. The suspect who colored his hair red  and called himself "the Joker" was nabbed by the police according to a federal law enforcement source.

There were 12 victims who died and over 58 injured according to the latest reports. Almost all those injured in the mass shooting was shot while a few have panicked and hurt themselves in chaos.
10 victims died almost instantaneously while 2 others succumbed to death at hospitals.
The mugshot of the Joker, who's original name was James. E. Holmes was not released but the witnesses described him as a man with a gas mask covering most of his face and head who was worryingly calm when he was killing people mercilessly.

Oates said that the booking photo of Holmes wouldn't be released for investigative reasons.
Holmes had set up numerous booby traps at his house when police tried to reach him at his home. There were many trip wires, incendiary and chemical devices which would all take a lot of time before they get to the house.

The neighboring houses were all evacuated for safety and allowed temporarily to take the required emergency items like medicine. No attempts to break into his house would be made till Saturday.

Holmes, 24, was completely armored head to toe in tactical gear. He set of two devices before he started spraying the Century 16 theater with bullets. He used an AR-15 rifle, a 12-guage shotgun and at least 2 of .40 caliber handguns which were recovered in the scene. The guns were licensed purchases  at a store in Denver area. He purchased them in numerous visits to the shops one after the other. Over 6,000 rounds of ammo were also purchased online.
He had a vest that was bullet proof and also a magazine pouch purchased online on the 2nd of July. Investigators said that he was the only one responsible for the attacks and no other aides who were along with him.

Investigators said that he initially went in the theater purchasing the ticket in the special costume along with many other similary donning costumes of characters. He later exited from the door in the back, got his weapons and caused the mayhem.

Holmes however surrendered himself without resistance,
Oates said that he had every part of his body protected; a ballistic helmet, protective gear for legs, throat, groin, black gloves and a gas mask. His deceptive appearance made everyone believe that he was also a movie-goer who dressed up for the debut.

Even as he used the smoke devices, people thought it was some sort of a prank on the first day but only after they heard gunshots did they realize it was all real and happening.

One source said that he initially shot at the ceiling and then aimed the audience. He even had spare magazines as he reloaded once during the shootings.

On Friday afternoon there are 30 people who are still in the hospitals and 11 of them are in critical condition.
Holmes would have to appear before the court of Arapahoe County, Colorado on Monday morning. He is now spending his time in the Arapahoe County Jail.
His parents have asked for privacy in the difficult period. They expressed sorrow to all those who were victims of the incident and to the grief stricken friends and relatives.

Holmes had a clean record with only traffic offences in his history.
To honor he victims flags were lowered to half-staff.

The authorities seized the suspect's car and were astonished to see lots of ammunition and magazines.

Christopher Nolan had condemned the shooting as an "appaling and savage" one. He said that the movie theatre was his home and the idea that someone would even violate the innocent and hopeful place in such a had devastated him. He also, on behalf of the crew, said that no words could express their feelings for the one who were affected by the shocking crime, but he consoled them by saying that their thoughts are with them and their families.

Precautions have been taken in numerous other places as a measure of abundance of caution. Warner Bros has cancelled the premiere of the movie in Paris. The Police Commissioner in New York had arranged  for extra security for the movie screenings. AMC threatres had restricted the entry of visiters in weird costumes that can cause discomfort to others and no fake guns or masks are allowed.
