In one of the most gruesome acts a fifty year old man who was twice convicted on rape charges when out on bail raped a seven year old minor and killed her at Goregaon, on Friday.

A seven-year-old girl was murdered after being raped by a drug-addled neighbour in suburban Goregaon. Senior inspector Shivaji Mandle of Goregaon police said the accused — Babaji Kamble (50) — was arrested and taken to a civic hospital for medical examination. Earlier, the people at Teen Dongri slums had assaulted him after knowing about the crime. He said the girl had been missing since afternoon. Her parents searched the area but could not find her. Finally, they found her lying unconscious in Kamble's house. The crime occurred last afternoon around 1 pm, when Kamble kidnapped the child after luring her with chocolates. The accused, who was out on bail in a case of raping a nine-year-old girl, had killed the girl and put her body under his bed.

Kamble, an auto driver has two rape cases lodged against him already, also a drug addict often seen smoking hash. Locals said that they had complained against him several times, but the police paid no heed to their objections.
