PMO appointed Kalmadi as OG head

kalmadiHighlighting the role of the Prime Minister’s office in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) scam, Controller and Accounting General of India (CAG) Mr Vinod Rai said today that Suresh Kalmadi was appointed as the chairman of the CWG Organizing Committee at the behest of the PMO.

Addressing media persons in Delhi after tabling its report on CWG scam in the Parliament, Mr Rai said Kalmadi was appointed to the post in 2004 despite severe objections by the then Sports Minister, the late Sunil Dutt.

The CAG report has revealed that irregularities had taken place in the award of contracts to Emaar MGF for the construction of CWG residential complex.

It also indicted the Delhi Government saying that the street scaping project carried out by it was the most ill conceived and ill planned that resulted in a loss of Rs.101 Cr to the state exchequer.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit refused to comment on the report saying no wrong was done. “Whatever was done was done in the best interests of the nation,” she said.
