Devastated Japan experiences after shocks

tsunami-japan-shocks-nationAfter the Friday’s earthquake and Tsunami that devastated coastal towns and other areas in the Northern Japan, the country witnessed 14 powerful aftershocks on Saturday with a magnitude ranging from 5 to 6.8 on the Richter scale. Reports said the after shocks were recorded in Japan’s east coast.

Meanwhile, the death toll from Friday's powerful quake and tsunami in Japan was put at 576 and over 725 were found missing from their homes in some coastal towns.

Possibility of nuclear meltdown

Japan’s nuclear safety commission said today that the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant unit -1 in Northern Japan is facing the dangerous prospects of melting down as its cooling systems were not operating following the shut down of its emergency generators after the earthquake and tsunami.

52,000 residents living in and around the 10 km radius of the plant were evacuated to safety after meltdown of the nuclear plant looked imminent due to generation of heavy doses of heat inside the plant.
