Aligarh Story
Professor Srinivas Siras (Manoj Bajpayee), a professor in Aligarh university, gets spotted at his residence, having some intimate moments with an autowala. He gets suspended, after that weird video was out.
Deepu Sebastin (Rajkummar Rao), a journalist, who finds Siras story interested, approaches him to open up on his version of his activity. Siras later, approaches the court for his suspension and did he win the case and how did the society receives him, after knowing his sexual tastes, is the rest of the story.
Aligarh Analysis
Due to its bold script, Aligarh movie took time to come out, of the huge level of negative speculations on the film.
The film skillfully sucks you into its character’s nuances. Siras will be spotted enjoying a drink with Lata Mangeshkar songs in a few scenes. The scene would appear powerful, because that is one moment where he is himself, holed up at home, without the fear of any kind of judgement.
Another key point in the film would be Siras’ poem that has enough of implied meaning regarding his life. This film speaks more in its silences than the dialogues and that’s where it steals the hearts.
Performance
Needless to say how tremendous actor Manoj Bajpayee is. It seems his whole career has waited for a movie like this, which can thoroughly squeeze out the acting potentiality of the legendary actor. Especially in the intimate scenes, Manoj nailed it with his bold performance.
Even Rajkummar Rao gives out good emotions in the film, with his South Indian accent. Ashish Vidyarthi as lawyer is perfect. Rest other characters have given a satisfactory performance.
The background score is apt, editing has negligible flaws. The production values are decent and the dialogues in the emotional scenes are good. The bold script is narrated in an acceptable way, keeping it away from creating some weird atmosphere in the theatre.
Aligarh Final Word
More than a film, Aligarh is an experience because it makes one ponder over their blessed lives. A brilliant execution of a bold script makes Aligarh, a sure watchable.
